How do you store matcha?
The tins are best stored in a cool, dry place.  A tea ceremony sensei we spoke to suggested storing it in the fridge once opened.  We do this and it works fantastic.
Does matcha have caffeine?
Yes.  Matcha contains naturally occurring caffeine.  The quantity of caffeine in your matcha will vary depending on how much you use but as a general guide, it can be up to half that of a cup of black coffee.
As opposed to coffee, matcha contains the amino acid called L-theanine; this is the result of the tea being grown in the shade for the last few weeks before being picked.  L-theanine promotes a state of relaxation and well-being.  For this reason, matcha is often referred to as providing calm focus.
A great alternative to coffee, especially if you don't enjoy the post-coffee jitters.

Why is Wabi Matcha packed in Japan?
Wabi Matcha is grown and packed at source in Uji, Japan.  We do this to help preserve the quality of the product; as being exposed to light, moisture and air are the core elements to deteriorate its quality - these elements are virtually impossible to avoid if the product is shipped and repacked from a bulk sample.
Why only 40 g tins for Ceremonial Grade?
Once opened, the contents will be exposed to the elements and will begin to age. For this reason, we use 40 g units, which equates to 20 to 40 servings depending on your personal preference and use.  In addition, matcha has a best before date of 300 days post being milled.  When it comes to matcha, it is safe to say fresh is best.
Tell me about the name Wabi...
The name Wabi Matcha comes from the Japanese concept of Wabi Sabi, which basically translates to beauty through simplicity.
The seal that each tin is individually marked with comes from the tradition of using a stamp or hanko instead of a signature; for this reason, no two tins are the same.
