Sakura is our single-cultivar ceremonial matcha, grown and processed in Uji, Kyoto, from the prized Okumidori tea cultivar. Sakura means "cherry blossom" in Japanese, a nod to its lovely natural floral aroma. In the bowl it's smooth and mellow, with gentle umami, a soft sweetness, and a vivid deep green colour that Okumidori is known for.

Why Okumidori?
Most matcha is a blend of several tea cultivars. Sakura is made from a single cultivar, Okumidori, so you taste its own character: a deep green colour, a smooth, rounded body with little bitterness, and the delicate floral scent that gives Sakura its name. Grown in the Uji region, the home of matcha for more than 800 years, it's a matcha for those who love to notice the differences between teas.
How to prepare
Traditional (usucha)
Sift 2g (1 level teaspoon, or 2 bamboo scoops) into a bowl. Add 70ml of water at 75–80°C, never boiling. Whisk briskly in an M or W motion for 15–20 seconds until a fine froth forms. Take a moment to enjoy the aroma before your first sip.
Matcha latte
Sakura is best enjoyed with water so its aroma comes through, but it also makes a beautiful latte. Whisk 2g with 30–40ml of hot water until smooth, then top with 150–200ml of warm milk.
Storage
Matcha is sensitive to light, heat, air and moisture. Reseal tightly after each use, keep it in a cool, dark cupboard, and enjoy within 6–8 weeks of opening. Fresh matcha keeps its floral aroma best.
Questions
Is Sakura flavoured with cherry blossom?
No. Sakura is 100% pure matcha with nothing added. The floral aroma comes naturally from the Okumidori tea leaves.
How is Sakura different from your other ceremonial matcha?
Sakura is a single-cultivar matcha chosen for its floral aroma and smooth, mellow taste. Tsubaki is our everyday ceremonial, Haru is certified organic, and Eiko is our Ceremonial Reserve, with the deepest umami in our range.
How much caffeine is in a serving?
About 50–70mg per 2g serve, similar to our other ceremonial matcha and generally less than a typical brewed coffee. The L-theanine in matcha gives a calmer, steadier lift.
Do I need a bamboo whisk?
For the best froth and aroma, yes. A bamboo whisk (chasen) creates the fine, creamy texture that ceremonial matcha deserves.
